TV Guardian



In the seemingly never-ending battle to protect families from offensive material on videotape and TV, a new technology breakthrough gives new hope to weary parents. TVGuardian™ is a simple-to-use black box (literally) that sits between the VCR or antenna and the TV, aggressively filtering objectionable foul language and offering less offensive substitutes in closed-captioning on-screen print. The device works by “reading” the close-captioned text signal required for hearing impaired viewers. When an objectionable word matches it’s internal dictionary of over 100 offensive phrases, the sound is muted and the edited script with a less offensive word or phrase appears on the screen. The Guardian is advertised as 95% effective because it depends on the close-captioned signal. If the closed-captioning is out of sync with the voice track, objectionable words may slip through. If there is no closed-captioning, as on older shows and movies prior to 1985, the Guardian cannot function. A few of the films listed below contain adult themes which are not suitable for younger audiences. Therefore, attention should be paid to the MPAA rating. However, with foul language removed by TVGuardian™, the films would fall into Preview’s positive acceptability limits.
